A digital camera when it first came out was expensive and didn't seem to practical because you still had to got to store to make prints. But now there are home printers and other technologies that make having a digital camera almost a necessatiy.

Don't be worried about cost...

When digital cameras were first introduced they were expensive, but that was some time ago. You can now find them going for as little as $50. Price for a good camera is hovering around $100 but with some searching for coupons and sales they can be had for much less.

Who to look for...

Certain brands of cameras like any other electronic device have good reliable ones and the other more shoddy options. The best companies to look at are Sony, Kodak, Nikon, Fujifilm and Samsung. These brands have a wide variety of cameras for every budget.

Where to buy...

I know that you may not know how to work a digital camera to well so I would have to recommend going to a retail store for your first purchase. It's good to get your hands on the thing your about to buy just to get a feel for it.

What accessiories to get...

If you don't buy a camera that has a bundle deal where you get batteries(if your camera uses them) or a memory card. A memory card can be bought for around $8 and if your camera uses double AA batteries I recommend getting some rechargeable ones they go for around $15 and are worth every penny.
